Valor Mortis, the first-person soulslike from the studio behind Ghostrunner, is out on Steam, and its developer says a major story DLC is due next year.

One More Level announced the launch in a Steam post at 3:55am AEDT on Wednesday 14 October. Its headline line reads “Valor Mortis is available on Steam right now.” The studio calls the game its “biggest” yet, built over “the past 3 years”.

The studio addresses its own premise head on — “Many people told us that “a Soulslike game wouldn’t work in first-person”.” It says a Steam playtest a year ago and a demo in June fed into the final game, which it describes as more polished and better optimised, with “way more bosses, environments and quests that make up our 20-hour campaign”. Those are the studio’s claims, not ours.

On Steam in Australia the game costs A$58.95 and is listed for Windows. Lyrical Games and One More Level are named as publishers.

The post also sets out a Deluxe Edition. The studio says it will add “a Major Story DLC next year”, and that the edition includes several cosmetic weapon skin packs, the first of which unlocks now. It gives no date or price for the DLC. It also lists bundles with other games at a 10 per cent discount.

Steam’s own user reviews are early. When we checked on Wednesday 14 October, 210 of 249 reviews were positive and Steam labelled the game Very Positive. That is a small sample from launch day.

The launch follows our earlier coverage of the gameplay overview. The studio asks players who hit a problem to report it in the Steam Bugs and Issues forum, and says its team is ready to fix bugs quickly.
