Star Wars: Galactic Racer has been nominated for Best Audio Design in the Golden Joystick Awards.
The nomination is announced in a post on the game’s Steam page, published at midnight AEDT going into Saturday 17 October. It says the audio design team at Fuse Games has been recognised.
Steam lists Fuse Games as the developer and Secret Mode as the publisher. The game came out on 6 October, and Steam’s Australian store lists it at A$88.50.
The post sets out the problem the team says it faced. It asks what breakneck speed sounds like in a galaxy far, far away, and then lets the team answer in its own words.
The first part of the statement is printed below, exactly as the post gives it.
“We’re absolutely overjoyed to be nominated for a Golden Joystick Award. It’s a common misconception that making Star Wars™ video game audio is straight forward. Whilst there is so much groundbreaking film and TV sound design to reference, our interactive medium requires completely different creative and executive vision. The huge amount of bespoke, new audio that we have created must stand alongside this illustrious heritage.”
The statement continues. The team says its aim was a “player-first, cinematic and authentic Star Wars racing experience.”
The post tells readers where to vote. It links to the Golden Joystick Awards page on GamesRadar+.
It gives the deadline in three time zones. “Voting closes at 16:00 PDT / 19:00 EDT / 00:00 BST on Friday October 23rd.” We have not converted it, because the post’s own wording is the record.
The post does not name the other nominees in the category. It does not say how votes are counted or when a winner is announced.
