The next Tetris 99 Maximus Cup starts at 5pm AEST on Friday. Get to 100 event points before it closes on Tuesday evening and you keep a theme built around Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
The 57th Tetris 99 Maximus Cup runs from 12am PT on 2 October to 11:59pm PT on 5 October. That is 5pm AEST this Friday through to 5:59pm AEDT on Tuesday 6 October. Daylight saving starts in the middle of it on Sunday, so the close lands at 5:59pm rather than 4:59pm.
Nintendo of America’s 57th Maximus Cup trailer sets out the rules. You need a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and you have to play the Tetris 99 online mode while the event is live.
Each match earns event points based on placement. Collect 100 points in total and a new theme unlocks. It carries art, music and Tetrimino designs inspired by Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the Switch 2 role-playing game.
The trailer description does not say how many points each placing is worth, so the first few matches are the best guide to how long the climb to 100 will take. Plan on more than one session.
The cup opens on a Friday evening and has the whole weekend in it. That is the time to play. The close on Tuesday is at 5:59pm, which is before most people get a proper evening session in, so Monday night is the real last chance for most players.
Fortune’s Weave launched on 17 September in Australia, according to the Nintendo AU page for the game. We covered that launch in our launch coverage. The theme itself is earned in Tetris 99, which the Nintendo AU page lists as a Switch game released on 14 February 2019.
Not a member yet? The Switch Online page lists the current Individual and Family plans. Sort that out before Friday, so the first lobby of the cup is not spent on a sign-up screen.
