Dazed Games says How to Fish has passed 10 million players, less than two months after its 20 August release on Steam.
The studio gave the figure in a Steam announcement posted at 10:42pm AEDT on Monday 12 October. “We just want to thank you to all the 10 MILLION PLAYERS who played our relaxing little fishing game!” it wrote. The number is the studio’s own claim, and the post doesn’t say how it was counted.
The post also looks ahead. “We know we’ve been quiet for a bit now but we’re doing stuff behind the scenes, no need to worry. We’ll be working on a bigger content update, porting to consoles and bugfixes in the coming months.”
It gives no date for the update — or for the console ports — and doesn’t name the consoles. The studio’s website says only that the game is coming to consoles and Mac, and that it doesn’t know when yet.

For now, the game is Windows only. On Steam in Australia it costs A$11.79, and the store page calls it “A 1-4 player physics based fishing simulator”.
Steam’s own user reviews run heavily in its favour. When we checked on Tuesday 13 October, 77,518 of 81,522 reviews were positive, and Steam labels the game Overwhelmingly Positive.
Dazed Games is listed as both developer and publisher on Steam, so it is self-published. Its website doesn’t say where the studio is based.
It is the sort of small-team hit that turned up in our Steam Autumn Sale guide, where How to Fish made the under-A$10 list at A$7.30 — 38 per cent off — while the sale ran.
What the announcement signals is a bigger crowd and a promised update, with no date yet for either the update or the ports.
