Final Fantasy VII Revelation will probably be around 200GB, director Naoki Hamaguchi has said. Whichever version you buy, including a boxed copy, you will be downloading most of it.
Speaking to VGC at Tokyo Game Show, Hamaguchi said the numbers were still being finalised but that the game would be larger than the two Blu-ray discs Remake and Rebirth each shipped on. He acknowledged players have opinions about install sizes, but said the team would rather push past the hardware’s limits than compromise the game.
What that means for your console
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: Square Enix says the physical versions need an internet connection to download extra game data before you can play.
Switch 2: the physical release is a Game-Key Card, so the cartridge is effectively a licence. The full game downloads on first launch, and Square Enix says you need at least 130GB free.
PC: digital only, on Steam.
On a standard console, 200GB is a big share of the usable storage, so if you are planning to play at launch, expect to delete things or add storage.
Two story DLCs are already planned
Hamaguchi also confirmed two story DLCs, one focused on Sephiroth and one on Vincent and the Turks. He compared them to Intermission, the Yuffie episode that followed Remake, and said the main story will have a definitive ending that the DLC does not spoil. He would not say when in the timeline they take place.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on 8 April 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC. The Premium Edition, which includes the story expansion pass, gets 24 hours of early access.
