Got a Series X|S and a taste for the creepy? End of Abyss lands on Xbox today, and the Australian Microsoft Store has it unlocking at 2pm AEST!

It comes from Section 9 Interactive, a small studio in Malmö, Sweden, founded by three former Tarsier Studios members (small team, very big hole in the ground). You play Cel, a young combat technician heading down with her crew into a huge broken-down facility underground, where you upgrade your gear and fight whatever is lurking down there.

The studio calls it a top-down metroidvania with action horror, and says it started life as an action shooter before turning slower and more atmospheric as the team chased tension. Expect branching paths and hidden areas that open up as you get stronger!

When we checked early this morning, it was A$39.16 on the Australian Microsoft Store. It’s published by Epic Games Publishing, and the studio says the finished game is a long way from its first prototype, which didn’t have a clear look until the team went all-in on eerie.

What: End of Abyss
When: Today, 1 October, from 2pm AEST
Where: Xbox Series X|S
Price: A$39.16 on the Australian Microsoft Store

So grab a torch, keep the lights on and head on down into the Abyss this arvo!
