Apex Legends’ anti-cheat team has banned 905 accounts for abusing an exploit that dropped players into Ranked matches as Rookie IV — whatever their actual rank — and has taken 15,112,554 RP off them in total.
The figures are in An Update from the Anti-Cheat Team, posted to the game’s Steam page on 4 November. The team says it found the root cause, deployed a fix, and then investigated the accounts that had benefited.
According to the post, the exploit worked “primarily on PlayStation 5”. Players who used it paid no Ranked entry cost, got Rookie-tier kill bonuses, and had their matchmaking rating recorded as 0, while the RP they earned still went onto their real Ranked score.
Bans were scaled to the RP gained. 731 accounts were banned for 120 days for amassing up to 4,999 RP, 107 for 240 days for 5,000 to 9,999 RP, and 67 for 365 days for 10,000 RP or more.
By platform, the post lists 848 PlayStation accounts, 44 on Xbox, 12 on PC and 2 on Nintendo Switch 2. Those four figures add up to 906, one more than the stated total of 905 — the post does not explain the difference.
Not everyone who landed in a Rookie lobby was banned. The team writes: “We recognize that some players may have encountered this issue unintentionally. Through our investigation, we were able to precisely identify cases of unintended interaction and distinguish them from deliberate abuse. Those accounts were not actioned.”
The report lands in the first week of Apex Legends: Cipher, the season that added Ranked Legend Bans in Diamond lobbies and above. The game has also had a small update cutting Crypto’s drone recall from 6 seconds to 0.7 seconds and stopping an exploit that allowed excessive Evac Towers.
It is not the only shooter putting anti-cheat numbers in public — Battlefield 6’s own figures were explained here on 1 November. The Apex team says it will keep monitoring Ranked for similar activity.
