Activision has laid out how levelling, Prestige and camos work in Modern Warfare 4. Decide which Prestige path you want before you reach Level 55.
You have two ways to Prestige in Modern Warfare 4, and you choose when you finish Level 55. Activision’s progression post says it is the first time a Call of Duty game offers two distinct paths. It went up on Steam at 4:06am AEDT on Tuesday 20 October, by our conversion from 17:06 UTC on Monday.
Multiplayer has 55 levels. DMZ runs its own track of 70 levels, and DMZ XP also counts towards your 1-55 progression. Multiplayer XP does not count towards your DMZ level.

Here is the choice.
Classic Prestige resets your level unlocks and Create-a-Class progress. In return you get a 20% XP boost, one Permanent Unlock Token and bonus cosmetic rewards.
Regular Prestige restarts you at Level 1 and keeps every level unlock and your Create-a-Class content.
You pick again each time you enter a new Prestige level. Activision says most rewards are shared by both paths, and Classic players earn bonus rewards on top.
The token lets you keep one Level Unlock item for good. Activision’s example is the Throwing Knife, which you would otherwise reach again at Level 48. Its note says to think about perks, Field Upgrades, Killstreaks and equipment before weapons, because buying a Weapon Blueprint makes the base weapon permanently available.
There are 10 Prestige levels. After that comes Prestige Master, which runs to Level 1,000. Activision says the ultimate rewards for becoming a Prestige Legend are [CLASSIFIED].

Camos start with weapon levels. Every weapon has eight Military Camos, unlocked one after another as that weapon levels up, in either Multiplayer or DMZ. On the Han 86 assault rifle, Military Camo 1 arrives at Weapon Level 10 and Military Camo 8 at Weapon Level 65. Other weapons have different thresholds.
DMZ Early Access opened on 20 October for digital pre-orders and pre-purchases. Activision’s Steam post went up at 8:41am AEDT on Wednesday 21 October. Weapon levels and camos you earn there carry into Multiplayer at launch.
Activision gives the official launch as 23 October. Steam’s Australian store page lists 22 Oct, 2026 and A$109.95 when we checked, so watch the countdown for your unlock time. Earlier, we covered the early access dates and DMZ’s FOB and Hajin.
