Three of the four Pacific teams lost their opening match at Champions Shanghai, so Paper Rex are the only unbeaten side from our region. Here is every Pacific match this week, in Australian time, and what each one decides.
The first round of groups is done, and it went badly for our region. Paper Rex beat Team Liquid 2–1 on the opening day, as we covered on Sunday. Every other Pacific team lost.
NONGSHIM REDFORCE fell 0–2 to NRG, GLOBAL ESPORTS took a map off Team Vitality but lost 1–2, and T1 opened on Sunday night with a 0–2 loss to 100 Thieves. Those results come from the official Champions schedule.
Monday is a dark day with no matches, and then the second round starts and the format gets serious. The Everything You Need To Know guide from Riot sums it up: “Lose two and you’re out.” Every match is best-of-three.
Here is when to tune in, with all times in AEST and Perth two hours earlier.
On Tuesday 29 September at 7pm, Paper Rex play G2 Esports with both teams on 1–0. Win, and Paper Rex stay unbeaten in the group, but lose and they still have a life.
On Thursday 1 October at 10pm, NONGSHIM REDFORCE play Xi Lai Gaming, and with both teams on 0–1 the loser goes home.
On Friday 2 October at 7pm, GLOBAL ESPORTS play EDWARD Gaming in another elimination match between two 0–1 teams. At 10pm the same night, T1 play JD GAMING with the same stakes.
The last group matches, on 3 and 4 October, are still to be set, and remember that daylight saving starts on Sunday 4 October, so that night’s matches are at 8pm and 11pm AEDT in Sydney and Melbourne. The groups stage ends that day, and only eight of the sixteen teams make the playoffs, which run from 7 to 18 October.
