Five More Announcements From Mojang’s September Broadcast
The Sift took the headlines at Minecraft LIVE on 26 September, but it was not the only announcement. Mojang Studios’ own recap of the show lists a new cave biome, a theme park hotel, a release date for Minecraft on Switch 2 and more.
These are the other announcements, all taken from that recap and Minecraft’s own YouTube channel.
Ice Caves In The Next Game Drop
The first look at the next game drop went underground. Ice caves are a new cave biome, in the same family as the dripstone, lush and sulfur caves, filled with ice, calcite blocks and two new features.
Icicles grow naturally on cave ceilings. Ice crystals grow on the ground and emit a soft light.
The drop also adds a frozen zombie variant, which does not have a name yet. According to the after-show’s description, it “deals a freezing effect and, in some cases, throws ice balls”. No release date for the drop has been given.
Minecraft World Opens In London In 2027
Minecraft World opens at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London in 2027. The update came from Daisy Mercedes, Creative Producer at Merlin Entertainments, and Filip Keatley-Thoms, Creative Lead at Mojang.
The site will include what the recap calls “the world’s first Minecraft World Hotel”, with a deep-sea diner and themed rooms. Its ride, Escape the Nether, is billed as the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster, running both indoors and outdoors.
Minecraft On Switch 2 On 27 October
The recap closes by congratulating Nintendo Switch 2 “for getting Minecraft on October 27”. No further details on that version were given in the recap.
Sound Effects Packs And A Creator Platform
Sound effects packs are coming to Minecraft Marketplace. No price or date was listed.
Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergenström also outlined the creator platform, which the recap describes as improving tools and systems “to make it easier to create, manage, and share your game content”. The stated goal is to lower the barrier for more players to become Minecraft creators.
The show also marked the 10th birthday of Minecraft Education and launched a community challenge to place 50 million straw beds and 200 million cushions across the Overworld.
