Telltale Relights Fabletown For Bigby Wolf’s Return

The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches on 29 October. The date comes from a PlayStation Blog interview with Matt Saia, the remaster’s game director and Telltale’s VP of Creative.

The Australian PlayStation Store lists the remaster for PS5. It covers all five episodes of the original series, which was inspired by DC’s Fables comics.

Saia told the blog that the studio left the heart of the game alone. “We avoided touching the story, the directorial choices, and the overall art style, those are sacred to us,” he said.

The stated aim is to bring in a new audience without losing the old one. According to Saia, “The goal is to introduce new players to Wolf in the best way possible and create a fun experience for returning players by packing it with updated art and behind the scenes features.”

The rest of the work went into presentation. The team moved the game up to the latest engine used in Telltale’s Batman series, then built new shaders for details such as shiny bottles and the inverted lines on moving objects like the ghost ship.

Lighting turned out to be the biggest job. According to Saia, any change to a scene meant redoing its lighting, and “By the end, every scene in the game was relit.” The team grew confident enough with the old engine that, in the same interview, Saia said the entire Summer Game Fest trailer was built in it.

Every character went from concept to a high-end model to a final in-game model, with all-new textures. Saia named the werewolf as the change that exceeded expectations, calling him “so much more feral and powerful than the original”.

The remaster also adds Noir Mode, which plays the whole story in black and white. The store listing says players can switch between it and the remastered look at any time.

Saia has form here. He said he was the person who added Shadows Mode to Telltale’s Batman series, although Noir Mode drops the highlights of colour that mode used.

Bonus material is included as well. The store listing promises developer commentary, concept art, interviews, restored content and other archival material on the making of the game.

The Australian store still shows the release only as October 2026, with no price listed. The Wolf Among Us Remastered can be wishlisted now.
