Ember Lab has pushed Kena: Scars of Kosmora into 2027. The studio confirmed the move in a PlayStation Blog post on 1 October, which pairs the new window with an overview of the sequel’s story.

The reason given is scale. Ember Lab says it wants to beat the quality of its 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits, “and at a much bigger scale.” The post adds that “Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver.”

What the post doesn’t give is a month — or the window it replaces. The Australian PlayStation page still reads “Release date to be determined.”

The rest of the post is story. Kena has long studied as a Spirit Guide — “equal parts warrior and spiritual healer” — clearing the Corruption left when the dead can’t move on peacefully. She’s helped the dead, but by Ember Lab’s account she hasn’t always dealt with her own pain.

Her childhood friend Orfio believes the island of Kosmora holds the answers they’ve both been looking for, and Kena sets out to meet him there.

Kosmora was once home to four interconnected cultures, each built around a guiding element, until a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. The surviving cultures still live by their elements, and their Spirit Guide temples — the post calls them dungeon experiences — are described as “a big part of the game.”

The biggest mechanical change is a mount. Kena’s “crystalline canine companion” carries her across the larger island, fights beside her both mounted and on foot, and helps solve Alchemystic puzzles.

For all that, Ember Lab isn’t describing an open world. The sequel is “a character-focused linear adventure but with a broader and deeper scope than Bridge of Spirits,” with more for players who go off the beaten path.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora is coming to PS5, physically and digitally, and to PC as a digital release. No Australian price has been listed.
