Frontier has released Update 1.0.5 for Planet Zoo 2 and apologised for stability problems in Franchise Mode.

In its Steam post — headed “Planet Zoo 2 | Update 1.0.5” and put up at 1:02am AEDT on Saturday 17 October by our conversion from 14:02 UTC — the studio says “We apologise for the stability issues that some players have faced in Franchise Mode, and that general game stability has been below what we would expect.” It adds that launch brought “the volume of concurrent players, well above our expectations”.

The update changes Franchise Mode in three ways, all marked “Included in today’s Update”. The split between male and female animals added to the animal trading market for cash has been rebalanced, as has the split of births. The login window is longer, to reduce the risk of a server time out while connecting.

The key changes in the notes include better stability when loading a franchise zoo, “especially for newly created zoos and flat zoos”. There is a new “Edge Scrolling” option in the keyboard and mouse settings, and a fix for several settings that were not saved after relaunching the game. The Zoopedia no longer marks DLC animals as inaccessible for DLC owners.

Some problems remain. Frontier lists increasing the volume of animals on the trading market, and increasing server capacity, as work still to come. It also says some usernames are tripping its profanity filter, which can show as a server connection error, and that a VPN may cause connection problems in Franchise Mode.

Its “ongoing areas of focus” are animals climbing, jumping and pouncing, animals that sometimes escape habitats, and animals being boxed more often than usual.

The post promises more detail soon. It says “Next week we will share an ‘under investigation’ news post”, which will be updated regularly with key issues from the Issue Tracker. The post was written on 16 October, so that is this week.

Planet Zoo 2 launched on 14 October, and our earlier coverage has the story, Planet Zoo 2 Is Out Now On Steam For A$70.50. The Steam page still lists it at A$70.50.

The post’s own list of high-priority areas puts Franchise Mode stability and server connectivity first.
