NBA The Run’s first seasonal update is live on Xbox Series X|S, and it’s free. Five 2000s legends join the roster, alongside new cameras, licensed music, Practice Mode and Custom Matches.
NBA The Run has kicked off its first season. Wave One – 2000s Legends went live on 29 September, and Xbox Wire calls it the biggest update since the game launched in June.
The headline act is the roster, with Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Dirk Nowitzki all joining, each with an alternate jersey. You have two ways to get them. Unlock each Legend one at a time for 5,000 Cred, the currency you earn by playing, or buy all five at once in the 2000’s Legends pack, which is A$14.95 on the Australian Microsoft Store. The pack needs the base game, which is A$44.95 on the same store.
Next, sort out your camera, because Wave One adds Drive Cam and Drive Flip Cam. Drive Cam sits behind your player and faces the basket you’re attacking, while Drive Flip Cam switches between your offensive and defensive ends. The developers say both make passing lanes easier to read, so try them before your next tournament run.
There is finally somewhere to practise, too. Practice Mode puts you against the CPU on any court and ruleset, and Custom Matches let you invite up to five friends to private online games in Knockout Solos or Knockout Squads. Neither mode affects progression or awards Cred, so it is a safe place to learn a new Legend.
If you like a long grind, Championship Belts are for you. You earn a Belt by winning with individual players, and Knockout Squads and Knockout Solos each have their own. Your count shows on the Main Menu, so your friends can see it.
The soundtrack now has Run Anthems, 11 licensed tracks from artists linked to the game’s courts in New York, Philly, Chicago and Los Angeles. Prefer the original score? Settings lets you pick licensed, original or a mix.
The rest of the list is long, with new driving layups, standing dunks, alley-oops and advanced dunks, plus new taunts, banners, badges and alternate jerseys. Two new courts join the Knockout Tournament mix: Dyckman, in Day and Tournament versions, and Spring Garden Elementary.
The fix the community will notice first is goaltending, which the post says has been “significantly reduced” after player feedback.
What’s next is the Campaign, which Xbox Wire says is “currently targeted for Spring 2027”. That is the northern hemisphere’s spring. The full Wave One patch notes are on the NBA The Run news page.
