Activision Confirms Launch Day For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now live worldwide, according to Activision’s launch post on Steam.

The post went up at 18:09 UTC on 23 October, which was 5:09am AEDT on 24 October once converted to Sydney time. It opens with the line “Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 4 is now live worldwide!”

It describes a campaign in which “Price is on the run, conflict has erupted on the Korean Peninsula”. Multiplayer starts with 20 maps. Twelve are new 6v6 maps, four are Gunfight maps and three are Ground War maps. The twentieth is the Kill Block modular training facility. The modes are listed in earlier coverage.

The post also describes DMZ as an extraction mode, in which players operate as an off-the-books asset behind enemy lines.

The Vault Edition is the premium option. Activision lists a Hunter Killer Operator Skin, a Hostile Alliance Operator Pack for Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix, and a Special Forces Operator Pack with skins for the United Kingdom, Germany, France and South Korea. It adds a Signature Weapon Collection of five weapons, one season of BlackCell with up to 20 Tier Skips, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus.

Anyone who pre-ordered the Digital Standard Edition can upgrade to the Vault Edition later, provided the upgrade is made on the same platform as the original purchase.

A separate Call of Duty Endowment Valor Pack is also on offer from launch in Multiplayer and DMZ. It was made with U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kyle Carpenter.

Players who link a Discord account get a bonus Calling Card. Those who linked during the Beta must link again, and Activision says they will keep the card and receive 1 hour of Double XP and 1 hour of Double Weapon XP.

On price, the Australian Steam page listed Modern Warfare 4 at A$109.95 and the Vault Edition at A$149.95 when it was read on 26 October.

When Steam’s most-played chart was read that day, the Call of Duty listing ranked 6th, up from 17th the week before. Steam lists Activision as publisher.
