Project Moon will ship a memory optimisation update for Limbus Company on 8 October, aimed at crashes in the latest part of the main story on phones.

The studio set out the changes in a preliminary notice posted to the game’s Steam page.

Version 1.116.2 is scheduled for 12:00 KST on 8 October. That is 2pm AEDT on Thursday, 1pm in Brisbane and 11am in Perth.

The changes target Main Story Chapter 10, Part 3. The notice lists three fixes.

The first changes how combat and visual effect resources are compressed. Project Moon says these keep the same resolution, so visual quality is not affected.

The second stops unique cinematic and combat resources from carrying over into the scenes and battles that follow them.

The third removes combat visual resources that were being loaded in scenes where they were not used.

The studio’s expected results are specific, and are reproduced here in full:

“These are based on the results from our internal iOS testing device with 4GB of available RAM for application usage. Memory usage when continuously playing the latter part of <Part 3> will be reduced by up to approximately 15%. (Based on our internal 4GB RAM testing device, these changes reduce memory usage by approximately 300MB) We expect this to reduce crashing instances in the affected sections.”

The notice says “The same optimization processes will be applied to AOS devices as well”.

It is also clear about the limits. “Please note that this improvement does not guarantee that crashes won’t occur in certain Encounters on devices with 4GB RAM,” the notice reads.

Project Moon says further optimisation work is under way. Players whose game keeps crashing are advised to try again after closing other apps, then lodge a customer service ticket with their device model, where the crash happens and a screenshot.

The notice closes with an apology. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”
