The first Feature Update for Gothic 1 Remake is out, and it is free on PC. It brings the Colony a photo mode, the old Marvin cheat mode and the first stage of mod support.
Gothic 1 Remake has its first Feature Update. The update post went up on Steam at 1:27am AEDT on Friday, by our conversion. It is free on PC, so you can jump in tonight.
Start with Photo Mode. You open it from the pause menu or with the L key. The post says it comes with various options for setting up your shots of the Colony.
Next is Marvin Mode, the official cheat mode. It lets you open locks, teleport, and spawn items, characters or creatures. To turn it on, press Esc, type MARVIN, then press Esc again and follow the instructions. To turn it off, press Esc and type 42.
The Nameless Hero can now get a proper haircut and tattoos. You unlock both by completing a few simple quests for Joru and Baal Namib. Swamp Camp members also get a Brotherhood immersion and customisation feature. You can now wait while sitting on a bench, too.
The improvements are short. There are more sound reactions, crafted weapons have improved stats, and there is a new animation for dying in water from damage.

The fix list is longer. Two identical rings now work as expected when equipped together. Saturas no longer sells the Water Mages Robe twice. Green Goblins carry clubs and swords, and Goblin Warriors carry morning stars. If the “Aaron Chest” quest blocked you in Chapter 1, or Urshak never appeared in the Ruined Castle in Chapter 4, both are fixed. Mad Kalom’s combat, navigation and attacks are polished for certain situations in Chapter 6.
If you want to make mods, the team posted a Modkit beta an hour and a half later. It exposes the scripting language and the full script sources of the game. The modkit documentation explains how to use them, and the team asks modders to keep to its modding terms and licence, linked from the post. Launch with the mod management option on Steam, or start G1R-Win64-Shipping.exe with -ModManagementUI. Mods go up on the Steam Workshop page. The team has no ETA for more mod tools.
The Gothic Franchise Sale runs on Steam from 29 October until 5 November. Gothic 1 Remake is 25% off, and the Australian Steam store has it at A$55.12, down from A$73.50.
