Forest of Deceit now plays in six more languages. The update is out on Xbox and PC, and the language can be set per player, down to each phone controller.
Forest of Deceit, the social deduction party game from Ghost Camp, has a localisation update out now. It adds German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Italian, according to the team’s post on Xbox Wire.
The game is for four to eight players, either in the same room or online via screen share. Everyone uses a mobile web browser as a controller, and the group has to work out who among them are the “Innocents” and who are the “Traitors”. It is narrated by Sylvester McCoy.
The useful part is how granular it is. You can set the main game in one language and a single player’s phone controller in another. The post’s example is a group that mostly speaks English with one friend who only speaks Italian: the main screen stays in English and that friend’s controller runs in Italian.
The team says the most common question after launch was whether the game would be localised. It also says the translation work was done closely with translators, because in a game about lying, a misread button can make you look guilty for no reason.
The update is out on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC, and the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere. It is also on Steam, where the language list now includes all six, and where it is A$11.85 in Australia right now, down from A$13.95. You can also find it on the Xbox Store.
So if your group night always has one player lost in the rules, change their controller’s language and deal them in.
