Truckers heading to Iceland in Euro Truck Simulator 2 will have to go by sea. SCS Software has detailed the ferry routes in its Iceland DLC — out on 10 November — in a development blog post published at 3am AEDT on Sunday 1 November, by our conversion.

“Unlike most destinations in Euro Truck Simulator 2, reaching Iceland isn’t quite as simple as following the road,” the studio writes. Its map designers have added several ferry connections from existing European ports, plus one crossing inside Iceland.

The first runs from Hirtshals in Denmark to Seyðisfjörður in eastern Iceland, based on a real service operated by Smyril Line.

The second runs from Rotterdam’s Europoort to Þorlákshöfn on the south-west coast. SCS says the real route is a Smyril Line Cargo freight service, which it has “adapted into a regular ferry connection for players to use with their trucks and trailers.”

The third is invented. A connection from Ålesund in Norway to Seyðisfjörður “doesn’t exist in real life,” SCS says, but it adds travel options, and the previously inaccessible ferry port in Ålesund opens to players as part of it.

Inside Iceland, a fourth ferry crosses Breiðafjörður bay between Stykkishólmur and Brjánslækur — a real route that SCS pitches as an alternative to the winding stretches of Route 60 in the north-west.

The same post introduces transparent water, which makes its first appearance in the Iceland DLC. Players will be able to see rocks and terrain under the surface in shallower areas, and fast-flowing rivers get foam effects.

There is a catch. SCS warns that taking a truck and trailer by ferry “can come with a rather hefty price tag,” and points players who would rather skip the voyage to Quick Travel.

Gamers Classified covered the Iceland DLC’s date and trailer in October. The post gives no price for the DLC. Euro Truck Simulator 2 itself was A$31.99 on the Australian Steam store on Sunday.
