RuneScape is getting a second economy, and soon. Jagex announced RuneScape Reignited at its RuneFest 2026 Summit, and it launches on 2 December — a new permanent character type that starts from nothing alongside the players who never left.

The detail is in Jagex’s Reignited blog and FAQ, which answers most of what existing players will want to know.

What Reignited Actually Is

Reignited characters get a brand-new economy and their own hiscores, with no paid progression available, and they play in the same worlds as everyone else as well as in Reignited-only worlds of their own.

Jagex compares the setup to Ironman: existing characters are now called Veterans, and the two types are meant to sit side by side rather than one replacing the other.

The description on the reveal trailer sums it up as “Remastered content, a fresh economy, world firsts unclaimed and a focus on players first”.

Where The Two Economies Split

The line is drawn around anything that touches the economy or progress, so Veterans and Reignited characters cannot trade with each other, each type gets its own Grand Exchange, and the two cannot share boss instances. They can still form or join clans and homesteads together.

There is no switching between the two — asked whether a character can change types, the FAQ answers: “No. Enabling this would compromise the integrity of the distinct economies.” Jagex also says there are “no predetermined plans for a merge at this stage”.

What It Costs

Reignited needs its own membership — the FAQ says it works like Ironman in that respect — and the FAQ does not give a price. To get people started, every Reignited character gets free access to members’ worlds from 2 December to 12 December.

On microtransactions, Jagex points back to January 2026, when it removed Treasure Hunter from the game. Reignited characters can buy cosmetic overrides through the marketplace, but Radiant stars will not be available to them, and gold swapping into or out of Reignited will be prohibited.

What Else Lands On 2 December

Reignited is one part of a single update, and the same day brings the Adventure Guide — an optional “golden path” through the game — and the first stage of a remastered early game.

According to the 2027 roadmap post, that remaster runs from Tutorial Island through to Seers Village, Camelot and Elvarg’s lair. Early quest bosses such as those in Demon Slayer, Vampyre Slayer and Dragon Slayer are being reworked with mechanics and health bars.

Before any of that, the RS Plugin Beta starts on 6 October. Jagex is pitching all of it as a relaunch that does not reset anyone, and the one number players still do not have is what a Reignited membership will cost.
