Jonathan Blow’s Puzzle Adventure Arrives After a Decade
Order of the Sinking Star, the new puzzle game from Braid and The Witness director Jonathan Blow, unlocked in Australia at 4am AEDT this morning. The launch post describes it as “a decade in the making”.
The essentials, from the studio’s own launch posts and store page, are below.
Where to Play It and What It Costs
The game is out on Steam and Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. It is also available through NVIDIA GeForce NOW.
On Steam in Australia, the game is A$41.95. Prices on the other platforms were not checked for this guide.
Three Steam bundles take 10% off. They pair the game with Mewgenics, with Animal Well, or with the original soundtrack.
What Kind of Game It Is
The launch post promises more than a thousand handcrafted puzzles and “hundreds of hours of gameplay”. Each puzzle builds on the last, adding new mechanics as it goes.
The puzzles are spread across four worlds, each with its own characters and rules. The store page lists “a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard, and a talking boat” among the heroes, and the worlds eventually collide.
The design is non-linear. According to the studio, a roadblock in one realm “simply means you can pivot to another world” and come back later.
Who Is in the Cast
The game is fully voiced. Emily O’Brien plays The Queen, Liam O’Brien The Warrior, Darin De Paul The Wizard and Anjali Bhimani The Bard. Erica Luttrell voices the Sailor, Matthew Waterson The Druid, and Jonathan Blow makes a special appearance.
This guide is based on the publisher’s own material. The game has not been played for it, and it is not a review.
