Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has had what Xbox Wire calls “the biggest update the game has seen” — the Avatar State Patch, announced on Steam at 1:07am AEDT on 29 October (our conversion) and out on Xbox Series X|S in a post dated 30 October.

The Xbox Wire post lists four headline changes: a redesigned interface, two reimagined fighters, a rebalance of every character and more ways to play and learn. The Steam announcement adds two stages and links the full balance notes on the Paramount Games site.

Avatar Aang

The post says the studio’s art and combat directors took the two reworked fighters “in opposite directions.” Art Director Santiago R. Villa puts it this way: “For Aang, his Avatar pose looks to elevate his presence in all ways, while for Korra it looks to diminish it.”

His new Super Technique, Roku’s Inferno, temporarily transforms him into Roku, who engulfs the entire battlefield in flame, and the post says his new Level 4 super “brings in a special guest: Avatar Roku.” Villa says Aang is the only fighter in the game lit from below, to make him look mysterious and boss-like.

One detail is gone on purpose. Aang’s foot scar was dropped, because with fighters switching sides it would have been on the wrong foot half the time.

Nightmare Korra

Nightmare Korra’s kit has been rebuilt, and she now wears chains on both wrists instead of one. Her Final Technique is Eternal Nightmare. An early prototype drained her health constantly to represent mercury poisoning — it “didn’t make for interesting play,” so she now simply starts with less health.

The rest of the roster

Every fighter has been rebalanced, and the post singles out two changes. Azula’s Ambition’s Spark now tracks much closer to the opponent, with a bigger detonation hitbox that can be flow cancelled. Sokka’s sword special techniques can now cancel into a boomerang toss under certain circumstances with his Master Piandao support, and after at least 10 stacks of successful sword hits he unlocks that for the rest of the match.

Avatar Road and Air Temple Island can now be played outside Story Mode, and Story stages come to Local and Online Versus. There is also Story Mode+, Story difficulty settings, new tutorials, Combo Trials, music selection at stage select and more Training Mode options.

The Year 1 Pass vote

Players who pre-ordered or own the Deluxe Edition can vote for the fifth Year 1 Pass character, alongside the confirmed Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Bolin. The candidates are Tenzin, Kuvira, Amon, King Bumi and Asami Sato. Voting runs for one month, from the main menu.

The game launched on 23 July 2026, according to Steam, where it lists at A$43.95 in Australia. The Xbox post’s edition prices carry no currency label, so they are not repeated here.
