Kuro Games says Wuthering Waves on Steam will switch to its Official Launcher in Version 3.8. The move brings tiered downloads and pre-download, but there is no date yet.
If you play on Steam, the way you download and update Wuthering Waves is about to change. Kuro Games says it plans to “upgrade the client download and update mechanism for the game on Steam in Version 3.8.” The post went up at 21:00 UTC on 29 September, under the title “[Preview] Upcoming Client Update & Launcher Replacement on Steam”.
The post says “The current download method on Steam will be replaced with our Official Launcher”. Future game package downloads will run through it.
Two new features come with the launcher. The first is tiered client resource downloads, “allowing you to select and download game resources of your preferred graphics quality”. The second is pre-download, “allowing you to download resources for the upcoming version in advance”.

Tiered downloads already have a toehold. The Version 3.7 notes, posted an hour earlier, list “support for tiered client resource downloads” and say it “will be available in the form of a limited test”. Kuro’s post points to an announcement on its own site for more. We could not read that page’s text, so check it yourself for the detail.
There is one catch for now. The post says Steam clients downloaded before the launcher upgrade will temporarily use the HD package by default in Version 3.7.
You do not have to do anything yet. The post says the features are “under active development”, and that “We will notify you of the release schedule and detailed instructions on how to update the launcher in a future announcement.” It does not say when Version 3.8 arrives.

The same 3.7 notes list the version’s featured 5-star Resonators, Hsin and Suoming, and 5-star weapons Blooming Jadehaven and Unspoken Rue. The notes list each as obtainable through a Featured Resonator Convene or a Featured Weapon Convene. Neither post gives any rates.
Wuthering Waves is free to play on Steam for Windows, and Steam lists Kuro Games as developer and publisher. When we read Steam’s most-played chart on 19 October, it sat 81st, down from 75th the week before.
