The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered lands on 29 September as a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game. If you own it on Xbox, you also get the PC version at no extra cost.
The upgrade covers GOG, Steam, the Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are included for everyone who takes the upgrade.
The Xbox Play Anywhere part
CD Projekt Red confirmed this week that the remaster supports Xbox Play Anywhere from launch. Own The Witcher 3 digitally on Xbox, and you can install and play the PC version through the Xbox app and Microsoft Store, with saves shared between the two. It applies inside Microsoft’s ecosystem only; it does not hand you a Steam or GOG key.
One practical warning if you mod on PC: modded saves may lose that content when loaded on Xbox, or fail to load there at all. Keep a clean save if you plan to switch between the two.
What actually changes
Combat. New finishing moves and skills, and a reworked skill tree.
Movement. Smarter vaulting and platforming, and revamped horse riding.
Monsters. Improved AI and new moves for enemies.
Visuals. Overhauled lighting and sign effects. High-end PCs get DLSS 4.5, path tracing and ray-traced hair. The Xbox Ally X gets FSR 4.0.
PC players should check the updated system requirements before the day; they have changed.
New platforms, and one more expansion
The remaster is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net, where it is available to pre-purchase. And CD Projekt Red has teased a third and final expansion, Songs of the Past, which sends Geralt to the realm of Letten in 2027.
