Kojima Productions Finds A New Publisher Three Months After Sony Walked Away

Physint, the action-espionage title from Kojima Productions, will now be published by Xbox rather than PlayStation.

Kojima Productions says PlayStation Studios notified it in mid-June 2026 that the project was being cancelled. The studio has spent the months since searching for a replacement partner.

Kojima said the search “found in Xbox a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future.”

PlayStation confirmed it had made the decision to step away from the project, while stating that its broader relationship with Kojima remains strong. No further reason was given publicly.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the new arrangement in a statement posted to Xbox Wire. The deal expands an existing partnership between the two companies.

Xbox already publishes Kojima’s other in-development title, the horror game OD, first announced in 2023.

Physint was originally unveiled in January 2024. Kojima described it at the time as a next-generation action-espionage game intended to blur the line between games and film.

The move ends what would have been a third collaboration between Kojima and Sony. Kojima left Konami, creator of Metal Gear, in 2015, and has since released the two Death Stranding games through PlayStation.

Supporting cast members Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok and Minami Hamabe have been confirmed for Physint, though its lead role has not yet been cast publicly.

No release date or platforms have been announced under the new publishing arrangement.

The change was confirmed through a sequence of separate statements from PlayStation, Kojima Productions, Kojima himself, and Xbox, issued over two days in September.
