Valve has introduced a new system to the Majors, the Qualifiers just completed is now the New Challengers stage. Matches are played in the Swiss System Format with Best of 1 games. Once the teams win 3 games they move onto the next stage. The next stage, formally the Groups, is now known as the New Legends. Teams that qualified for the playoffs last Major in Krakow automatically qualify for the New Legends stage. The top 9 teams from the New Challengers stage will make up the lost spot from 100 Thieves. Challengers will join the remaining 7 Legend teams continuing with Best of 1 matches. The top 8 teams from the New Legends stage will progress to the playoffs becoming Legends for the next Major.

Playoffs consist of the Quarter, Semi and Grand Finals, this is now the New Champions stage. This stage will consist of Best of 3 elimination matches to determine the winning team. The New Champions stage will run from the 26th of January with the Grand Finals closing the Major on the 28th. Like previous Majors, Eleague Boston carries a prize pool of $1,000,000 and as the first Major of 2018 will set the ball rolling for this year.

From January 19th the New Legends stage will resume to determine who will move on to the Quarterfinals. The top 8 of the New Legends stage will automatically receive an invite to the next Major without needing to qualify. For us in Australia, New Legends game time starts on January 20th at 2am AEDT. Like many of the other Majors, we won’t be getting any sleep watching these live on Twitch.
