The Sift Debuts In Minecraft Dungeons II Before Joining Java And Bedrock
Minecraft is getting a fourth dimension. Mojang Studios confirmed at Minecraft LIVE on 26 September that the Sift will come to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
It will be the first new dimension in Minecraft in over 14 years, joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End.
Players will not have to wait until 2027 to see it. The Sift is introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches on 29 September.
The dimension was first announced at Gamescom and shown in more detail during the Minecraft LIVE broadcast. In the opening stages of Dungeons II, according to Xbox Wire, strange events upend the natural order of the Overworld, new enemy types appear and souls begin to fly through the world.
In Dungeons II, the Sift is reached through rifts that appear across the game’s new interconnected world. Mojang’s recap describes it as “beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls”.
Xbox Wire’s write-up says the dimension brings a colourful new look, new mobs and new rules. “Shifting tides within the Sift can affect your character and those around you”, and hazardous new blocks will change how players approach exploration.
The Sift contains new biomes, including the Meadows and the Carapace. Mojang is keeping other areas a secret until players reach them in Dungeons II.
Details on the Minecraft version are thin. Xbox Wire says Mojang “isn’t talking too much about how to access the Sift”, or how it will differ from the Dungeons II version, although the broadcast showed a brief in-development look at the dimension running.
The recap adds that the broadcast also showed one of the mobs that lives there. No release date within 2027 has been given, and Mojang has pointed players to future Minecraft LIVE events for more.
Minecraft Dungeons II is out on 29 September for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It is included with Game Pass, and it is A$39.95 on the Australian Steam store.
