The announcement is finally here and the new Fallout game has been revealed. Fallout 76 is the next instalment of the post-apocalyptic game series from Bethesda.
After Bethesda asked us to ‘stand by’ for a solid amount of hours over the last couple of days, they have finally announced Fallout 76 with a teaser trailer. According to Fallout lore, this new game will be a prequel to previous Fallout games. Vault 76 is mentioned in both Fallout 3 and 4, in which are both set over 200 years after the nuclear war. Fallout 76, however, will take place only 20 years after the bombs were dropped.
According to Fallout 3, Vault 76 is located in Washington DC, a region unexplored by previous Fallout titles. In the teaser video, the Vault appears to be celebrating ‘Reclamation Day’ but is seemingly empty of vault dwellers. After just 20 years of waiting out the nuclear fallout, residents of Vault 76 will possibly venture out into the wastelands to ‘reclaim and rebuild’. Anything more is speculation at this stage, but much of it revolves around the possibility of online multiplayer.
Online you say?
Sources have supposedly confirmed that the game may explore online capabilities. We do not know if this means it will be of the battle royale genre though. The game originated from the idea to add multiplayer to Fallout 4. Since then it has taken its own story and timeline and will possibly be an ‘Online Survival RPG’. With multiplayer a rumoured part of the gameplay, Fallout 76 will still have its usual RPG storyline and quests. As all of the Fallout games have been in chronological order, it is unclear if the events in this game will be following or rewriting the Fallout lore.
Fallout 76 is currently available for Pre-Order and priced at $59.99 US. It will be available to play on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. More information will come with the official reveal at the E3 Bethesda showcase on Sunday, June 10th at 6:30 pm PT. This will be on Monday, June 11th at 11:30 am AEST for us in Australia.
