According to the organiser of EVO, Dragon Ball FighterZ has the most entrants of any fighting game at the 2018 event.
Joey Cuellar, the self-described ‘head honcho’ of EVO, shared the EVO 2018 Leaderboard on Twitter, which ranks each game at the event based on the number of entrants. Dragon Ball FighterZ toppled EVO mainstays such as Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Tekken 7.
The complete list is as follows:
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
- Tekken 7
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Super Smash Bros. for WiiU
- Blazblue Tag Battle
- Guilty Gear Rev 2
- Injustice 2
Though this list provides a broad ranking, the actual number of registered entrants is unknown. So it is unclear how much of a lead Dragon Ball FighterZ has over the other titles appearing at EVO 2018. Also, considering that the event doesn’t start until August 3, this list isn’t definitive and is subject to change. Maybe Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite still has a chance?
The Evolution Championship Series (EVO), is the largest fighting game tournament in the world. Since its inception in 1996, competitors from across the globe come together to determine who is the best player in their respective fighting game. Last years EVO had over 10,00 people registered for the event, with games such as Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 each pulling impressive numbers on their own. Once EVO 2018 concludes, it will be interesting to see the final entrants figures and determine which games are receiving the highest competitive pool.
The fact that Dragon Ball FighterZ ranked first is massive considering the other games attending the event. But, it just shows how much weight the Dragon Ball franchise has and how popular this latest game has become. Also, the sheer spectacle of watching top level players engage in crazy battles throughout EVO 2018 is going to be awesome. Teen Gohan, represent.
