Activision has given Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 a firm release date of 23 October 2026, and Australian retail listings now carry the local price.
The Australian price
EB Games lists the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X editions at $109.95, with a $10.00 deposit taken on preorder and a stated release of Friday 23 October 2026. JB Hi-Fi is carrying the same platforms.
For context against the same retailer’s shelf on the same day, EA Sports FC 27 is listed at $109.95 and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve at $124.95.
Preorders at EB Games attach early access to the open beta and a retailer-exclusive Modern Warfare 4 coin. Activision’s own Australian store also lists a Vault Edition, which adds BlackCell and further premium content, and a 10 per cent preorder discount on that edition for eligible returning Call of Duty owners.
The classification
The retail listing records an Australian classification of MA15+. The consumer advice attached to it reads “Strong themes and violence, online interactivity and chat, in-game purchases”.
That places the game a tier below R18+, and below the threshold that has caused problems for other releases this year.
What the campaign covers
Activision’s own description sets the war on the Korean Peninsula, with a North Korean invasion as the opening premise. The player takes the role of Private Park, a South Korean soldier in live combat for the first time.
Captain Price returns on a separate thread, operating outside the structure he previously served and pursued by it.
Listed campaign settings run to trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters fighting in New York, vehicle pursuit in Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and assaults to retake occupied ground.
Multiplayer and DMZ
Twelve new 6v6 maps are listed for day one, alongside larger maps combining vehicle and infantry combat. DMZ returns as the extraction mode, positioning the player as an off-the-books asset recovering military technology from a contested zone.
Activision describes the underlying change as a weapon-first technology stack, bringing aiming, handling, audio propagation and target visibility into a single tuned system.
Conditions of play
An Activision account is required. The publisher’s notes state that a mobile phone number linked to that account may be required to play. Online multiplayer on PlayStation 5 requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, sold separately.
The game releases on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. A multiplayer build was playable at Tokyo Game Show through Activision’s Japanese partner Happinet, ahead of the October date.
