Valhalla Gets New Game Plus In A Free Update
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a new free update, and its headline feature is New Game Plus.
Ubisoft calls it Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Most Requested Update. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog by Ubisoft writer and editor Brittany Spurlin, it is “a free update bringing several player-requested and quality-of-life features to the game”, live on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro from 5 November, US time.
The post lists seven additions: New Game Plus, two new achievements, an Enhanced Progression Mode option, a new Power calculation, a Master Assassin Naoe outfit, upgraded PSSR optimisations and an Animus Hub synchronisation update.
The post does not explain how New Game Plus or the Enhanced Progression Mode work, and it gives no patch size.
The PSSR upgrade is exclusive to PS5 Pro. Ubisoft engineering studio manager Priscilla Nguyen says in the post that the upgraded PSSR is “much crisper and more visually stable” than the game’s current temporal upscaler.
Nguyen also says the work did not require new art: “We didn’t need to overhaul the game’s content or visual assets. Instead, we leveraged the upgraded PSSR within our engine and rendering pipeline to enhance 4K image quality and deliver our Quality mode at 60FPS on PS5 Pro.”
According to Nguyen, the upgraded PSSR was already in Ubisoft’s latest releases, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, before it came to Valhalla.
The post names only PlayStation platforms. It says nothing about the update reaching PC or Xbox.
