Remember hide-and-seek? SCRAM wants you playing it again, across your whole street, park or campus, with your phone keeping score!

It comes from Moveera Pty Ltd, which the terms on its website describe as “the Australian company that runs SCRAM”, and it landed on the Australian App Store on 30 October. It is free to download and to join games. Hosting your own games is a one-time purchase, with no subscription and no ads (the listing does not show the price, so neither can we).

You split into hunters and runners. Runners get a head start, and every few minutes the hunters get a ping showing where each runner was. Tag someone in person and they tap “I got tagged”. The host can also shrink the play zone as the clock runs down, so you cannot just hide forever!

There are two modes. In Classic, tagged runners are out. In Infection, every tag switches sides, so the hunt grows as the round goes on. There is team radio too, and the website shows clips from real games on the Sunshine Coast.

When we checked this afternoon, SCRAM was 41st on the Australian App Store’s top free games chart, three days after launch.

The listing has one rule worth repeating: “Play somewhere safe, keep an eye on traffic, and stay off private property.”

Grab a few mates, get outside and play a round tonight!
