Control Resonant’s Launch Hotfix, Explained: What Remedy Changed And Why

Control Resonant is out, and it arrived with a patch already attached. Remedy deployed hotfix 1.3.3 at launch, and its post on Steam is unusually direct about why — enemies were taking too many hits to go down.

The studio says the game “has already been in the hands of a significant number of players” before its global launch, and that it had been reading reviews and looking at early player data. The hotfix names three problems: enemy health pools “feeling too high”, too many hits needed to Falter (stun) enemies for executions, and Dylan’s combat strength early on not feeling powerful enough. Remedy’s aside on that last one is worth keeping — “even if the man just woke up from a coma”.

The fix works on both sides of a fight. Most enemies, along with the Dancer and Deserter bosses, have lower base health and a lower Falter requirement. On Dylan’s side, maximum Aberrant Strength and maximum Ability Strength both go up, on a curve that gets steeper towards the end — in Remedy’s words, “The more upgrades you have, the more damage you deal.”

Respeccing is also cheaper, permanently. The hotfix reduces the cost of respeccing and increases the stock of Reset Items across all vendors, and the first Resonant boss, The Artist, now drops two Reset Items instead of one.

Two English UI labels change too. Aberrant Strength’s “Multiplier X%” becomes “Damage and Falter X%”, and the Build Power description is rewritten to list what actually feeds it. Other languages follow later.

For anyone who still wants more control — or less — the post points to Assist Mode in the Gameplay options. Its sliders cover enemy aggression, incoming damage and how quickly Dylan recovers his abilities, and Remedy notes they can make the game harder as well as easier.

What does it signal? A studio changing its combat balance on launch day, based on pre-launch data, is making a clear call about where the friction was. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen’s launch message says the game “took seven years”, and Remedy says it will “closely follow your feedback and make further adjustments as needed”. Our earlier coverage has the Australian release details. On Steam in Australia it is A$89.95.
