Takuma Miyazono held off two Spaniards to win the Nations Cup final in Singapore last night. Australia’s only driver in the field, Guy Barbara, finished 11th and leaves without points.
Round 3 of the Gran Turismo World Series wrapped up in Singapore on Saturday night, with the Nations Cup broadcast starting at 10pm AEST. It was the last round before the World Finals, which the series lists for Tokyo.
Japan’s Takuma Miyazono won the 24-lap Grand Final in the Red Bull X2019 Competition at Circuit de Sainte-Croix B Reverse. Spain’s Jose Serrano was 0.4 seconds behind, and Pol Urra made it two Spaniards on the podium. The top three crossed the line inside a second of each other.
The Nations Cup started at SUGO, in Super Formula cars. Kaj de Bruin of the Netherlands took the qualifying time trial, and France’s Kylian Drumont won the 15-lap Sprint Race that set the grid for the final. Drumont then finished sixth in the Grand Final.
Guy Barbara’s Night
Barbara, who races as OP_Twitchy, came through the Oceania qualifiers. His driver profile calls him “the experienced Australian veteran” and notes it is his third straight Nations Cup.
He qualified 10th, 1.327 seconds off pole. He finished the Sprint Race 11th, which put him 11th on the grid for the final, and he finished there too. Only the top six score World Series points, so Barbara is still on zero after three rounds.
The points table is now very tight. Serrano leads on 12, Urra has 11, and Miyazono and Drumont are both on 10. Samuel Moreno Baeza and Valerio Gallo sit on 7.
In the Manufacturers Cup, Subaru won the Grand Final with Daniel Solis driving. Ferrari and Mazda completed the podium. Porsche still leads that table on 14, two clear of Ferrari.
If you want to try SUGO yourself, you won’t wait long. The race details confirm the track debuted at this event ahead of its release in GT7. It arrives with the Spec IV Part 1 update on Thursday 15 October.
