About

Gamers Classified is an Australian gaming and esports publication. We cover the video game industry, local esports and the culture around both, from an Australian point of view — for people who play seriously and people who play occasionally.

What we cover

  • News — the video game industry, hardware, storefronts, and the events that move them.
  • Features — reviews, opinion and longer pieces on games culture.
  • eSports — competitive play with a focus on Australian teams, tournaments and organisations.
  • Videos — trailers, interviews and event coverage.

Our history

Back in 2017, Gamers Classified was a handful of us with a lot of enthusiasm and not much sleep.

If you read us back then, thank you! Between May 2017 and August 2019 we published 926 articles, and we couldn’t have written a fraction of them on our own.

To our writers

This site was built by the people who wrote for it. You turned up to events, tracked down the actual statements, argued about games in public, and explained patch notes so the rest of us didn’t have to.

A special thank you to Matthew Waite and Beth Weynberg, who were there from the very first month, May 2017. Matt covered the scene from the room, and Beth wrote about being a gamer like she was talking straight to you — between them, they set the tone for everything that came after. Sarah Thomas also deserves a shout-out for sticking with us from 2017 right through to 2019.

Alongside them were Nick McDonald, Roger Lee, AJ Splutter, Thomas Duff, Elyse Brown, Yoshi Itoku, Elizabeth Kirby, Zachariah Kelly, Kevin Nguyen, Elizabeth Griffin, Thomas Walker, Shay Hine, Sean Dela Cruz, Luke Sillay, Roberto Pilla and Kevin Ho. Every one of you left your mark on this place. Thank you!

How we work now

The site’s back, and it runs a bit differently. We use modern technology to keep an eye on what’s happening and get stories drafted. A small team reviews and decides what runs. Each story is credited to Gamers Classified and links to its source so you can always see where the news came from.

What we’re after hasn’t moved an inch: games news with a local flavour, written for people who actually play. Stick around and let us know how we’re going!
