Earlier today, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) announced the finalists for the upcoming D.I.C.E Awards and we’re happy to say that an Australian developer is on the list.

Out of the fifty-six games nominated at this year’s awards, the Australian-made title Florence is up for awards in three categories: Outstanding Achievement in Story, Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game and Portable Game of the Year.

From Melbourne-based studio: Mountains, the interactive tale follows a young woman’s experiences of love and loss in her mid 20s. Florence is the first game from the studio and is currently available for download on both iOS and Android. It has already made its mark on the industry with nominations in several other award shows, including the recent Game Awards where it won for Best Mobile Game.

Last year, Gamers Classified had a chat with the game’s Producer: Kamina Vincent after Florence was nominated for two awards at the Australia Games Awards. She has worked on various titles over the years and is heavily involved with Australia’s game dev community. Florence‘s Creative Director, Ken Wong, is also known for his work on the award-winning puzzle game, Monument Valley.

The awards will be held at the Aria Resort & Hotel Las Vegas on February 13th and the event will be live-streamed through the event’s media partner, IGN Entertainment. The winners are chosen by a panel of industry experts and members of AIAS.

As for the other categories, it looks like God of War is leading at this year’s event with a total of 12 nominations, Marvel’s Spider-Man follows with 11 and Red Dead Redemption 2 is up for eight awards.

More information on this year’s D.I.C.E Awards is also available on the AIAS website.

When I’m not addressing my addiction to Overwatch, I like to dabble in the odd JRPG with some favourites coming from the Final Fantasy franchise. I’m a sucker for games with great stories and fantastic music but I also love a good nostalgia trip with some oldies but goodies. I’m currently studying Journalism at the University of Technology Sydney and as a video games enthusiast, I love being able to report on them to my heart's content.
