Bungie has left Activision after 8 years of working with them. While the details are unclear on why the developers for Destiny has left, it does have the community talking about it.
The biggest thing about this whole split is that Bungie had stated that along with leaving Activision, there will be a few things that will come along with this split. All licensing rights will remain with Bungie and that they plan to self-publish new games. Bungie will not likely go to other major publishers like EA or Ubisoft for the future unless they get acquired.
With this, the studio gains full agency on their games, this includes what kind of content they can create, how the business side of things work and all other nuts and bolts that go into a game. Players may find it pleasant after Destiny 2 had been plagued with some pretty hefty monetizations and the studio change the system, whether in a minor scale or a complete overhaul.
Bungie had hinted, “We’ll continue to deliver on the existing Destiny roadmap, and we’re looking forward to releasing more seasonal experiences in the coming months, as well as surprising our community with some exciting announcements about what lies beyond.” This can refer to new content and a whole plethora of other things they had yet to dive into as it could be speculated to be anything.
The studio also thanked its community, believing that if it weren’t for their continued support as they believed they wouldn’t be as successful as they are now. The future remains pretty unclear with only a few vague hints on where they will head, but in my opinion, it should only be better from there as it is a new mark of Bungie’s chapter. What are your thoughts in Bungie’s situation now? Will there be new exciting ways how Bungie handles their games now and in the future?
