Borderlands 3 reveal trailer finally released at PAX East

Borderlands fans got a nice surprise this week with the drop of the Borderlands 3 reveal trailer.

Fans were soon sent into a frenzy with returning characters from every instalment of the franchise. The trailer also hinted at many new places and characters that would be joining the series. Borderlands players have been waiting for a Borderlands 3 for a long time now with hints dropped back at PAX West 2017. Gearbox has had this one in the works for a while. In the lead up to that very same PAX West in 2017, it was revealed that a highly anticipated title would be released between the 1st of April 2018 and the 31st of March 2019. If that were to still be the case, the game would be dropping tomorrow. However, as we have only just received the trailer, it is safe to say we might still be waiting.

But how long will we be waiting?

Some of the keen eyes of Reddit have supposedly cracked this. At about 1:40 into the trailer, the camera pans up a building with ’01’ at the top. Continue ten seconds ahead to the 1:51 timestamp and you will see another building with ’10’ painted on it. These two numbers are in the same font and colour so it may not be a coincidence. It could instead be hinting at the release date, 01/10 could be the 1st of October later this year. Randy Pitchford from Gearbox, confirmed on a Borderlands tweet that the release date would be revealed on April 3rd so we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Some time has definitely passed since the last Borderlands games, with Tiny Tina looking quite a bit older and Maya the Siren’s hair has grown out. The trailer shows us some old friends as well as introducing us to some new planets and the Vault Hunters. The new Siren, Amara, has the ability to summon multiple arms. The guns with legs are that of pets that belong to the big robot guy, Flak. The guy with the eyepatch and a hologram buddy is Zane. And finally, don’t pick on her size because Moze can summon mechs.

What do you think of the new trailer? Are you ready to jump back into the crazy steam-punk, space western that is Borderlands?
