Until Dawn

Developed by Supermassive Games and released in 2015, Until Dawn is a truly unique survival horror for so many reasons. Until Dawn uses a ‘butterfly effect’ system of decision making where players must make hundreds of decisions in their attempt to keep all of the characters alive throughout the night. Riddled with jump-scares and heart-stopping moments, Until Dawn is a top pick for the October season.

The Inpatient

Developed by Supermassive Games, The Inpatient is a prequel to the aforementioned 2015 horror-survival title, Until Dawn. A Playstation VR exclusive, The Inpatient takes players on a first-person adventure through an asylum, where you must witness and avoid the horrors within the walls of the asylum. If you’re looking to be scared, The Inpatient is a psychological-horror that won’t disappoint.

Outlast / Outlast 2

Both Outlast games have been famed for their terrifying nature as genuinely frightening horror games. Shot through a camera, it brings the ‘found-footage’ style into the gaming world. The nature of this gives players limited scope of their environment, making the whole adventure a lot more unnerving. Check out the Outlast 2 trailer below:

The Evil Within

Tango Gamework’s The Evil Within was a unique journey that kept players guessing the whole game. With terrifying enemies, no phobia was left alone as developers made sure there was a scare for every player in the game. The fluid and ever-changing atmosphere also made for a complex storyline that moulded around the gameplay. The Evil Within is a horror game that blends atmosphere, horror and the storyline seamlessly.

Bloodborne

FromSoftware’s 2015 title, Bloodborne.

Developed by FromSoftware, Bloodborne puts a horror twist on a dark, gothic Victorian universe. Beasts grown from a blood-borne plague that is ravaging the world of the game, players must push past these obstacles to stop the plague and discover it’s source. Released in 2015, Bloodborne is a game of critical acclaim and was nominated as Game of the Year by many publications.
