Zombie Belle at Oz Comic Con.

Gamers Classified recently attended Oz Comic Con at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. Oz Comic Con is a multi-genre pop culture convention which features international guest speakers, workshops, competitions and shopping. Below is a selection of highlights with links to footage and exclusive interviews from the event.

Comic Con is a celebration of creativity and a great example of this was the cosplay parade. This was a combination of the Cosplay Active award recipients and non-competitors who simply wanted to show case their outfits. Cosplay Active participants were required to either perform a skit in costume or to speak to the MC about their costume (preferably while in character).  After the Cosplay Active winners received their awards and posed for photos, the non-competitors were also invited on stage to show off their costumes and also pose for photos. Some non-competitors took to the stage both in costume and in character such as Crash Bandicoot who performed his signature victory dance. You can see this at 01:38 in our video of the parade.

Sydney Oz Comic Con included over 200 stalls which sold clothing, jewellery, board games, official merchandise, cosplay fabrics and literature. We managed to speak to a number of vendors and ask about their wares. This was a great opportunity to showcase Australian creatives and some wonderful organisations. Maybe you’ll see something you like in our interviews at their respective stalls.

This year, Oz Comic Con partnered with Play World Australia to create a special experience for younger attendees. Above the stalls and stages of Oz Comic Con was a separate space which featured kids’ performers, balloons, slime and of course, video games.  This section included a number of interactive activities which encouraged discovery and social interaction. For example, there were mock paleontological dig sites where children were encouraged to work in teams to uncover dinosaur bones. Aside from speaking to attendees and shooting general footage, we may also have scored an exclusive interview with an international guest, possibly from the cosplay industry. The only way to find out is to check back soon.
