WayForward are known for making masterpieces that sometimes get little press, you could even call them hidden gems – everything they push out seems to have a quality to it that a cult amount of people hold onto, and I’m part of that cult. With titles like Shantae, Mighty Switch Force, The Mummy Demastered MARVEL Puzzle Quest and most of the Adventure Time games and many more, they honestly have an amazing catalogue in which you could pick up any of their titles and have a blast with it for hours at a time. Today, just now, WayForward announced Shantae 5 for PS4, XBone, Switch, PC and Apple Arcade – a sequel to the very well received Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero. The Shantae Series originally started on the Game Boy Color and was released very late into it’s lifespan, causes the original cart to be printed in low numbers, exclusively in the US and in turn, making it extreamly rare and valuable.

Though the original Shantae slipped past the majority, it was actually quite advanced for what it was – and has solid gameplay all around, leading to two DSi Sequels, available on the DSi eShop that blew critics away. Those two games, though shorter than most, were highly praised enough to receive ports to almost every console since, and even physical ports to the PS4, 3DS and even the Nintendo Switch. The most recent game, Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero, was funded on KickStarter and blew everyone who I know away even more than the last two, causing it to receive a port to every current console both digitally and physically. I, for one, cannot wait to jump back into Shantae and expand my collection with more physical Shantae merchandise and games – it’s a series that mixes the best of platforming and puzzle solving with a great environment and beautiful art, it’s something not to be missed. If you are interested in Platformers, or the Shantae games, I highly suggest you follow WayForward on Twitter for more updates on the development of Shantae 5, coming to the PS4, XBone, Switch, PC and Apple Arcade.
