With the end of the year right around the corner, it’s a great time to reflect the games that we experienced in 2018. Being a fairly big year for gaming, we saw many titles fly past as months went by. While some flopped upon release, let’s take this time to look at some of the games that truly impressed us this year.

It’s no surprise that the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 has peaked at the top of this list. It was bound to be the game of the year before even hitting shelves, and it did not disappoint upon its release. From long journeys on horseback to missions of gang violence in the wild west, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a fair recipient of its pre-release hype.

Detroit: Become Human

It had been years since we had seen the likes of a game by Quantic Dream. Five years ago Beyond: Two Souls was something of a let down, and in the time that passed the company worked solidly on this stellar title. Detroit was insightful and presented players with a confronting but interesting view of the future. With tough decisions, difficult consequences and a rich storyline, Quantic Dream did not disappoint with this title.

God of War

Achieving some perfect scores upon release, God of War was a beautiful game to play. The rich combat system and in-depth and rewarding exploration made for a true journey for players of God of War. From great music, graphics, storylines and interesting characters, God of War nailed it, making it one of the unmissable games of the year.

A massive step forward for the Assassin’s Creed series, Odyssey brought back everything that we loved about the previous instalments and made it better. From massive battles, naval battles and the ability to choose the characters that you played as, Odyssey stepped it up in 2018. Players could choose dialogues and decide on what values they aligned with. If you thought Assassin’s Creed had gone stale, give Odyssey a chance and it’s sure to be worth your time.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Proving further that it was the right year to be a Playstation player, Spider-Man stood out as a shining success. While it is often hard for a video game to match the reputation of the movie it is based off, Spider-Man managed to do it seamlessly. While Spider-Man games have been hit-or-miss in the past, 2018’s Spider-Man games deserves a top spot.

While maybe being an obvious list of the best games of the year, this is not without reason. These games were highly anticipated and did not disappoint – which can be pretty rare sometimes. These titles are worthy of the praise they received, and if you missed playing any this year, jump on the sales and get them going, you won’t be disappointed!
