Strom Boy: The Game from Blowfish Studios is nominated for four awards at the Australian Games Awards (AGA): Australian Game, Independent Game, Family/Kids Title and Mobile/Handheld Title of the Year.

Gamer Classified spoke with Blowfish Studios Game Designer and Producer Samuel McCully about Storm Boy: The Game at PAXAUS earlier this year. McCully explained that Storm Boy: The Game is the video game adaptation of Colin Thiele’s 1964 novel of the same name. The book’s publisher, New Holland Publishers, approached Blowfish Studios regarding a video game adaptation. To watch the full interview with McCully, please see the video below.

Gamers Classified also recently spoke with Blowfish Studios’ Senior Producer and Game Designer, Ellen Jurik about the studio’s reaction to the nominations.

GC: What was your reaction to being nominated?

EJ: Thrilled- especially that we were nominated for four categories! It’s an absolute honour to be considered in the same category as the other games we’re up against.

GC: Is it correct to say that this game is about friendship and interacting with nature?

EJ: Friendship, absolutely; and respect for nature. It’s also very much about nostalgia and memory, of that first special bond you have to someone (pet or person) in your life.

GC: Is there anything else you would like to say?

Thanks of course to everyone who nominated us, and who vote for us! Special thanks to New Holland Publishers, who own the rights to Storm Boy: they’ve been an absolute delight to work with. We’re also really heartened to hear the positive response to Storm Boy; it was a pleasure to work on, and a bit of a deviation from what we usually do, and will be applying what we’ve learned to our future projects!
